Miriam Makeba

You might know her for the Pata Pata song! This one is from her early days when she was one of the few South African singers to play in front of white audiences. She left South Africa and was refused re-entry until the fall of Apartheid when Mandela asked her back.

I like this song because of the really visceral interpretation.
